Learn about the OpenCape Project
Mon, May 21st, 2012
2:00 pm

The Wellfleet Community Forum will host a presentation on the OpenCape project and how it could affect Wellfleet.

Scheduled speakers include Dan Gallagher, CEO of OpenCape, and Cristian Paul Patapie, Town of Wellfleet IT support.

OpenCape is a not-for-profit organization led by CEO Dan Gallagher.  OpenCape has secured approximately $42,000,000 in grants and private contributions to construct a high speed, reliable Internet backbone serving Cape Cod and the Islands which will act. as an information highway on which municipal, public safety, and commercial services can travel.

Mr. Gallagher will outline OpenCape’s construction progress to date and its relationship with its selected operating entity, CapeNet.  Dan will also discuss the types of services expected to use OpenCape’s backbone, including robust backup for emergency services communications; high speed Internet connections with anchor institutions such as town halls, schools, and libraries; a regional municipal network for shared and centrally located municipal services; and commercial opportunities.

Cristian Paul Patapie provides IT support to the Town of Wellfleet and also maintains a private consulting practice on the Lower Cape.  Cristian will be available to add his “Wellfleet centric” thoughts about how Wellfleet might best utilize this opportunity.

The program will be moderated by Harry Sarkis Terkanian, Forum board member and IT Director for the Town of Truro.
