Book Talk with Rachel Cline and Adam Moss: Are We Done, Yet?
Old friends and avid readers discuss #metoo, the impact of social media, and why they both still care about the novel.Novelist Rachel Cline and magazine editor Adam Moss met at Oberlin College in 1975 and have remained friends through many summers. Since Rachel has just published her third novel and Adam has just left his job at New York, they have a lot to discuss. At the library, they will offer a friendly conversation about Cline's novel, The Question Authority (a nuanced look at the impact of a predatory teacher), and poke at some of the larger questions confronting them both: How important is it to "tell our stories"? What can a novel do that new/social media can't? How much does #metoo matter? Will Adam ever really retire? Will Rachel ever write a book that sells? They will also take questions from the audience.
Rachel Cline is the author of the novels What to Keep and My Liar and has written for the New York Times, New York, More, SELF, and Tin House and is a produced screen- and television writer. She lives in Brooklyn Heights, a few blocks from where she grew up (with her mother, longtime Wellfleet resident and library patron, Barbara Lovett).
Adam Moss is an American magazine and newspaper editor. From 2004 until May 2019, he was the editor-in-chief of New York magazine. Under his editorship, New York won more National Magazine Awards than any other magazine overall. During this period, he oversaw the development and growth of New York's website into one repeatedly recognized as among the industry's most innovative and successful, launching the standalone sites Vulture and the Cut, among others. Since 2009, he and his husband Daniel Kaizer have owned a home in Provincetown and spend as much time as possible, there.
