and in Ex Libris insert   you'll find two special articles: first a profile of Elaine McIlroy, our director and winner of the "We Love Our Librarian Award" and second, an overview of the highly successful second round of Wellfeet's One Book/One Community project.

History and PurposeThe Friends of the Wellfleet Libraries was founded in 1968 with the stated purpose of establishing an organization dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of the community; stimulating the use of library resources and services; encouraging gifts, endowments and bequests; developing library facilities; and supporting the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

The Friends support of the Library
~ Wellfleet Library Building Fund (The Friends contributed $45,000 toward furniture, a Steinway piano, a system for exhibiting artwork, and a lectern, projectors, and sound equipment for the meeting room).
~ Wellfleet Library's membership in CLAMS (The Friends committed $20,000 to its implementation).
~ Wellfleet Seminars
~ Distinguished Speakers Series
~ The Sculpture, Sea Forms, was given jointly by the Friends and the noted sculptor, Gilbert Franklin, who created it.
~ An annual supplement to the library budget that is used for special books and periodicals, children's programs, museum passes, computer purchase and user support, and audio visual materials for documenting the life and times of the community.

How You Can Help
The library is funded by the Town of Wellfleet. Through your support, the Friends expands and enriches the library's collections and activities. Our main sources of income are members' dues, donations, our summer Distinguished Speaker Programs, and the annual summer book sales. Used books for the summer sales may be donated by leaving them at the library at any time throughout the year. A collection bin is located outside on the east side of the building so that books can be dropped off any day, any time.
